Mokwena Responds to Ramovic’s Call Claims
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena has dismissed his TS Galaxy coach, Sead Ramovic, as nothing more than an attention-seeker.
Last week, Ramovic told reporters at a pre-match conference that he received an explicit phone call from Mokwena last December, in which the latter cussed him out and allegedly threatened him.
The German coach said the call came after Galaxy knocked Sundowns out of the Carling Knockout first round last October: when Mokwena tried to attribute the loss to absent players who were on national soccer duty, Ramovic labelled this as an “excuse”.
Following Sundowns’ 3-0 victory over AmaZulu FC on Wednesday, 28 February, Mokwena was pressed to share his thoughts about Ramovic’s claims in a post-match press conference.
“You don’t need to hear my side of the story,” he replied, somewhat huffily. “I don’t think you would like to hear my side of the story … Let’s leave him to be right, I am wrong. I am the bad guy.”
When pressed again for answers, the 37-year-old said: “If I have to say something to Sead, again I’ll pick up the phone and I’ll say it on the phone … I don’t mind if he comes for me. There are a lot of coaches who have come for me.”
Mokwena added: “He wants attention. The guy is pleading. The guy is pleading, saying, ‘I have won five games in a row and no one is talking.’”
Fans are sure to be talking next Wednesday, 6 March when Sundowns take on Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.
